Us

I put my life on the line,
In search of a land different from mine.
I don’t know what I see,
But a blinding image covets me.
 It’s not as if I don’t try,
To excel in every part of life.
It’s just that there are certain issues
In which I break and tear,
Quicker than a tissue.

We wonder in life why we fail.
But how do we know before we even set sail?
We leave a trail behind of how we flop
We keep going even if there is a sign, Stop.
It’s not just me and it’s not just you
We cannot always stay true
And He understands, He knows us
He knows why we always fuss

But the fact is, we cannot always wait
And hope we don’t make the same mistake.
We need to take a stand
Make our ending a little grand
I know that it will be hard
And that life may always seem barred
But I know we have what it takes
Thought the path is covered with snakes
We will stand on and not look back
We will not end our lives with a smack.

If what He says is true,
That we are capable
Why do we stay afar?
And think, we are incapable?
It is because we have faced many falls
Not this time.
Even if we have to crawl.

Public Announcement

I write to all who are blind, as God is the light in our life.  We cannot depend on other men, especially not in our time of strife.  Riches and treasure are not of importance now, and the thing that matters is what we can portray. With that, I take a bow and will go deeper to what I am trying to say. The purpose of my life is to please God. I do not want riches or gold it is immaterial. To shine and to glorified, to that I nod. All else, to live for man, is surreal. In God’s eyes, I want to be lifted up. Than to serve a culture of hate and envy, I say enough. I claim that His love is greater than all man. I have no shame and I might displease men but I say it because I can. I look not for what they will say about me. I look to remain in Him as He is my key. In this life of dismay and disloyalty, I would love to be seen as royalty. In His eyes and not that of man. I will be glad if I am in His plan. I will be true to God and my faith shall hold strong. I shall do right and not do wrong.  I will not disappoint God. But my faith and perseverance will make Him applaud. I write this to you, who are lost in this earth. I beg of you to prove your worth. To Him and Him alone and not for man. To trust him completely and stay true to His plan.

I

All I require of my self
That my life won’t lie on shelves
That my greatness reaches heights
For the people, it’s a sight

I don’t care what people say
Your love for me till end of days
They will say of how you split
But I don’t care, not one bit

I know I may not have much
But my faith will make You blush
What is spoken, shall be done
And what is done shall be for You
Not one change, for I’m your son
I hope not to let you rue

ORIGINAL: Great God, I Ask for no Meaner Pelf: Henry Thoreau

Great God, I ask for no meaner pelf
Than that I may not disappoint myself,
That in my action I may soar as high
As I can now discern with this clear eye.

And next in value, which thy kindness lends,
That I may greatly disappoint my friends,
Howe'er they think or hope that it may be,
They may not dream how thou'st distinguished me.

That my weak hand may equal my firm faith
And my life practice what my tongue saith
That my low conduct may not show
Nor my relenting lines
That I thy purpose did not know
Or overrated thy designs.

Know Who You Are

What is one’s purpose in life? Or, the real question, what are more important, relationships or responsibility. You owe it to yourself to comprehend what you truly are and who you are meant to be in this world. Chris McCandless’s act of setting on a journey in which he would discover himself is truly admirable. That he would listen to himself and his true calling rather than live by society’s expectations is remarkable. Quindlens’ I think that yes, sometimes, to discover yourself, relationships might have to be put under the knife but it is all for a great ultimate goal. Like Quindlen said, you need to get away from these chains being placed on you and like what Thoreau said, experience life in your own perception. If you don’t understand who you are and what you are meant to do, how can you be content with doing something society has chained upon you? It is necessary to break free from these chains and find meaning in your life. Sometimes, you need to give up everything like Chris, and this can be quite intimidating. But other times, your ultimate meaning may not be that far away and you can understand yourself without going to the extremes.

Thoreau: Escape

Thoreau presents a different idea in relation to responsibility and relationships. Thoreau portrays a vision of becoming one with nature in order to escape the responsibilities of the real word and come to a state of peace. His approach allows him to appreciate his surroundings and focus solely on that rather than businesses, work, travel, and other tensions. He wants us to live our lives rather than live an artificial life of hurriedness. His views take in consideration that it is alright to have families but it is not okay to waste our lives. We have to take some time and truly appreciate the gift of nature. In his view about relationships, He claims that one should actually build new relationships that will have an effect on your life. These relationships are truly important. Instead, we are being drowned by gossip and unnecessary information about those that don’t play a significant effect in our lives.  "There are none happy in the world but beings who enjoy freely a vast horizon” is a quotation from the text that emphasizes his point, in which one has to enjoy nature and live peacefully rather than live in the busy world.

Quindlen: Great Expectations

The excitement of graduating and listening to an experienced professional telling you to accept all challenges of life and becoming something of yourself is what someone would expect at a commencement speech. Quindlen offered another approach in where she was telling the graduates to give up. Give up living up to society’s expectations and live for yourself first. First, truly understand who you are before doing what society wants you to do. What if, you take up these challenges and find that people around you are proud but you, truly, on the inside are left out completely empty? It should not be like this and Quindlen illustrates and puts emphasis into the phrase, “give up”. Don’t miss out on who you can be, and truly learn the aspects of your identity. In terms of responsibility, she poses a very striking thought. Is it our responsibility to commit to society’s standards? Will we fall out of favour with society if its expectations are not met? This deals with a direct relationship with responsibilities and relationships. Her ideas are certainly questionable given she has already given into society’s standards but her ideas do contain merit.
